Singaporeans’ favorite BKK Thai wonton noodles are here | 65CityGirl

Having made a trip to the wanton mee mecca in BKK a couple of years back,  I could no longer view the humble dish of egg noodles with meat filled dumplings in the same light anymore.

So imagine my delight (yes I acknowledge I’m probably a couple of years slow here) when I realized I could fulfill my thai wanton noodle cravings right here in Singapore too even though the store is not affiliated nor have associations to the original store in BKK.

The native SabX2 Wanton Mee eatery situated at Soi Petchburi 19 in BKK, has one branch (that I know of), patronized day in day out by throngs of tourists determined to get a taste of the oh-so-heavenly noodles. Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee in Singapore has two branches on our tiny island to cater to the westerners (Jurong) and the central foodies (Ang Mo Kio).

Here’s a quick comparison between the two:

Conclusion:

The native noodles in BKK is definitely a clear winner in my opinion in terms of taste and flavor (the fact I go back to the shop multiple times during each trip to BKK shows my absolute and undying love for it). But since it’s clear to me that I’m unlikely to relocate to Bangkok for the sake of the noodles, I’m more than happy to have found something reasonably priced and similar enough (although people hoping for a direct replica will be disappointed) that I can stuff my face with while I’m back home 🙂

In fact I think Soi 19 in SG has done so well over the past couple of years that they’ve recently set up a 2nd outlet in Jurong. Go check out the outlets in Singapore if your next trip to Bangkok is still a while away. But if you have an upcoming BKK trip planned for, don’t forget to make a trip down to the humble little store along Soi 19!
