Everyone wants glowing skin, especially brides on their special day, but is it really easily achievable? Having not bothered about skin care routines my whole life, given how expensive and time consuming they are, getting glowing skin seemed like such an impossible task.
However, with my upcoming special day in a few months time, I have been motivated like never before to incorporate a proper yet fuss-free skin care routine. And I am super happy to say that it is working out really well!
So here’s sharing with anyone who really wants to get that healthy looking glow on your skin – be it fellow brides or over worked office peeps.
As a skincare product newbie, I did my research and figured out the most comprehensive skin care routine takes about 10 steps. But following the full routine would be way too complicated for me, hence I decided to focus on only 8 which I am confident to follow through daily – morning and night.
For each step, I began to look for products that is suitable for my skin type. For instance, I have extremely sensitive skin that is combination type (oily with pimples yet having areas dry to the point of flakiness). As such, water-based products would be most suitable and also to avoid overly irritant and abrasive products. So choose products suitable for your own skin types.
After much research online, and obtaining corresponding recommendations from friends, I narrowed down to the following products that are now part of my daily glowing skin routine now.
Makeup Remover // Maybelline Eye & Lip Makeup Remover
It is super effective in helping me get rid of my eye and lip make up without much rubbing and scrubbing (which hurts the skin). Very suitable for me as I tend to only put on eye & lip makeup and nothing else much.

Cleanser // Neutrogena Deep Clean Brightening Foaming Cleanser
Bought it during a Watsons sale on a whim previously, and have been using it since. I personally have been switching between the Neutrogena cleansing products and they have all worked well for me. Gives the skin a tight and clean feeling after a wash.

Exfoliator // Cure Natural Aqua Gel
Because of my sensitive skin I have avoided using exfoliators like the plague, because of how they would cause more irritation than help my skin in general until I found out about Cure. Without coloring, preservatives, fragrance or alcohol, this product gets the job done just as effectively and without causing further harm to my skin! I must say this extra step of exfoliating has helped my skin absorb the rest of the moisturizing and brightening products so much better and hence the great results.

Toner // Son & Park Beauty Water
A Korean product that is highly acclaimed both online and offline (my friends have tried it out), I could not help but try it out. Water based and very mild, it is just perfect for prepping my skin to absorb all the great products in the subsequent steps. And did I mention the amazing fragrance from the lavender and rose water base?

Treatment // Dear Klairs’ Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Serum
Ever since my first-hand experience of a Vitamin C injection at an aesthetics clinic in Seoul, where I saw how Vitamin C truly can help my skin glow, I have been on the search for a similar way to replicate the effects topically, since the former is banned in Singapore. Most topical Vitamin C products sold in Singapore are expensive and have high percentages of extract in them. However having sensitive skin, I found this wonderful Korean product with a low 5% of extract that seems to work wonders too! * Tip: I mix 4 drops of this product with my moisturizer so I save one step of application *

Masks // Mediheal N.M.F Acquaring Mask
Given that most of my skin problems can be resolved by hydration, I picked a mask that was good for that purpose. I use this on airplanes, during travel and basically twice a week before I sleep to help give my skin that much need boost of hydration.

Moisturizer // Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion Light
For combination skin types, water based moisturizers are best. Other types of moisturizers tend to cause breakouts due to over oiliness or richness. This particular moisturizer achieves what it is meant to do, lock in the moisture in my skin, which is probably why I wake up with glowing dewy skin every morning now – even though I sleep in an air-conditioned room.

Sun Protection // Shiseido Perfect UV Protector SPF 50+
For the longest time I did not wear sunblock despite all the warnings my friends gave me, because I simply hated the oily feeling most sunblocks had upon application. I was lucky to have a friend working in the skincare industry recommend this great product which is not oily and suitable for my sensitive skin (i.e. I did not break out in pimples after). Thanks to that, I am wearing more sunblock these days!
For the past three weeks, I have been diligently adhering to the steps of the skin care routine with the above mentioned products and have seen amazing results of glowing skin. I am excited to maintain it going forward, so I can keep enjoying this wonderful glow I have only read so much about.
Let me know if you decide to try out the 8 step skin care routine or if any of these products work out really well for you too! 🙂
